Cloudreach Donates the Connect iPaaS to Eclipse
London (October 23rd, 2018) Cloudreach, a global cloud software and services provider, today announced it has donated its Cloudreach Connect IP to the Eclipse Foundation, and it will now be offered under an Eclipse Open Source license. Cloudreach will also become part of the Eclipse Foundation Solutions group.
Cloudreach Connect is a data management platform specialised in the orchestration of Big Data workloads. It provides an easy to use interface which allows you to ingest, transform, archive, search and deliver data through a Data Lake built on your Cloud Service Provider of choice. Cloudreach believes that giving access to its underlying technology to the Eclipse Foundation community is the best way to realise the full potential of Connect, by unlocking many more use cases for the technology.
“We initially chose Cloudreach Connect, now Eclipse X2, for its flexibility and scalability to help us with our Salesforce integration” says Evan Morgan, CTO at RatedPeople. “Its plugin abstraction quickly gave my developers the ability to focus on our core business needs. Our success has lead us to plan greater integration across our stack. The news that it is to be adopted by the Eclipse foundation is a testament to the sound architectural principles underlying a system that just works.”
The Eclipse Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit corporation that acts as a steward of the Eclipse open source software development community. The Foundation believes that Connect aligns well with their existing Jakarta EE project, and by donating it to the Eclipse Foundation it will become accessible to its large community.
“The main underlying technology that makes Connect work is the application server X2. The application server is responsible for the interaction with the public cloud, the virtualized peer to peer networking technology, and the application modularisation” says Chris Stura, Chief Architect at Cloudreach. “Due to this and open source software being more developer focused we are proud that the technology will now be known as Eclipse X2. I am overwhelmed by the potential this announcement creates and look forward to seeing the ecosystem of software components thrive in its new home.”
Open sourcing Connect will provide customers increased stability, freedom of action and will allow them to invest in their Connect-based software solutions with increased confidence. Existing customers will continue to be supported by Cloudreach, which will in the future offer alternative solutions based on the newly released open source option.
