Women Who Inspire Us | International Women's Day 2020

Cloudreachers across the globe share stories about the inspirational women in their lives who embody the theme of this year's International Women's Day, #EachForEqual.

Within a year of joining Cloudreach, Barbara Cooke (Edinburgh) has become Head of Operations and we already see many initiatives which are making a real difference for the team. She's transparent and always able to find solutions to big and small problems on the spot. The most important thing is that she's acting on her promises and delivering tangible results. On top of that she's just a great person to work with!

Karolina Gawonicz, Service Transition Specialist, Edinburgh

My mother, Agnès Faure. When I was 10, she gave up her career as Editor in Chief of Art Magazine in France to follow her husband and family to San Francisco. There, she undertook the EMBA between Berkeley and Columbia and is now head Currator of 836M, a non profit gallery which hosted artists such as Banksy or Jean-Michel Othoniel. All of the above while having the care of 5 kids. She is my source of motivation and determination.

Pierre Bourguignon, Sales Development Specialist, France

Belen Ripoll (London) is dedicated to lifting women up in their careers both in and outside her role at Cloudreach. As Head of Talent, she leads a global recruitment team that works around the clock to build our teams with the best and brightest, directly impacting the future success of the organization. Her commitment to promoting women in Tech exceeds her day to day talent acquisition responsibilities. As a founding member and organizer of Tech Women London, she empowers and connects women working or aspiring to work in the Tech industry to further develop their careers. Her behaviors inside and outside work demonstrate her commitment to supporting women and closing the gender pay gap. A true embodiment of this year’s theme #EachforEqual!

Sydnee Greenberg, Brand Creative & Design, Chicago

Lisa Gray is a talented Software Engineer and a valued member of  the app mod team at Cloudreach.  Consistently impressing her teammates and customers with her ability to pick up and learn new concepts, she has delivered quality and integral  work for multiple projects - embodying our value of succeeding together. Currently the team’s only Oregonian, she’s a master of her craft when it comes to virtual working - not to mention has set up an awesome battlestation!  Deeply curious even outside of work, she speaks two languages (no wonder she picks up coding quickly!) and is an awesome motorcyclist - excited to be highlighting her during International Women’s Day! P.S. Check out her blog feature!

Clark Whiteway, Head of Software Profession, NYC & Jaime Mennealy, Profession Manager, Remote (Maine)

Emma Lea Jackson (Global PMO Analyst): I got the pleasure of working with you last year and ever since then I knew that I have made a friend. Your energy and attitude towards everything is inspiring. Not only are you my colleague at work, but you are also my friend. Your time, support, and cooperation I value a lot. Thanks for all you do and just in case you didn't know I think you are an amazing woman!

Hadiel Jassim, DevOps Engineer, Atlanta

I've always been inspired by my grandmother, Shirley Mae Bird, who was born in 1899 and passed away in 1999 at the age of 99. So you can imagine she lived through very challenging and interesting times during her 100 years. Unfortunately she lost her husband when he was in his early 40's so lived most of her life alone, yet despite this she always kept a positive spirit. In fact I can't remember a single instance where I saw her down, angry or upset. She was a determined and sometimes stubborn person enabling her to plow through the many challenges that come with aging but always kept her mental agility even playing competitive bridge right to the end. One time at dinner as kids we asked her to share her secret to long life, a positive spirit, and mental strength and, being from Kentucky, she said "each day I have a little bit of chocolate and a little bit of bourbon." So now you know the secret to life!

Brooks Borcherding, President & COO, NYC

Rochelle Farmer (Head of Legal EMEA), for me, embodies what IWD is all about - Justice, Dignity, Hope, Equality, Collaboration, Tenacity, Appreciation, Respect, Empathy, Forgiveness. Rochelle is an absolutely kick-ass lawyer, is a productivity machine, lives and breathes integrity and collaboration, and is an all round wonderful human. I continue to be mystified how Rochelle can not only power through the volume of work she does, at top-notch quality, also have time for other life activities and manages all of this without a frown! Always kind to everyone, always fair, always trying to make things better. Rochelle - thank you for being you!

I also want to take a moment to mention my older sister, Mazzy. I've always been in awe of my sister - for her grit, her imagination, her determination and her courage. At the age of 21 she moved half way across the world, and in the 20 years since she has lived in 5 countries, 3 continents, is a senior exec in Silicon Valley and has recently pushed through some major life challenges and come out the other side even stronger and wiser than before. An inspiring (and at times daunting) role model to look up to!
