A Face in the Cloud - Yonas Wülferath, Commercial Operations, Cologne
Here at Cloudreach, we believe that the growth of a great business is fueled by great people. It is our talented individuals that make Cloudreach the success it is. Today Yonas Wülferath from Commercial Operations tells us about his experience working and keeping it cloudy at Cloudreach.
Tell us about your journey - how did you get to where you are today? Were you always interested in a career in technology?
I have an educational background in Business. I graduated from FH Aachen as well as from Edinburgh Napier and I have always sought a career in a dynamic and challenging field such as cloud computing. With Cloudreach I found exactly what I was looking for - an international player committed to the public cloud with awesome people who you just love to work with.
What has it been like to be involved in the commercial operations for an organisation growing as rapidly as Cloudreach?
It has been a successful journey especially for us in the German market. When I joined Cloudreach three years ago, we had just began to build our presence in Munich with five people. Now we are at the point where we are spread over four locations and have amazing customers all over the DACH region. Being part of a growing organization always comes with highs and lows, but overall it has been and still is an exciting journey.
What trends have you observed within the cloud technology industry from a business perspective?
German companies are generally traditional in the way they look at their business and, in consequence, also their IT. Especially during the last year, we could really sense that the state of mind is changing and that many companies realize that they can’t just hide from the "trend" (as they often refer to the cloud). I believe that with the great potential of the German market, this mindset will be enforced and will intensify the competition.
What impact do you see Cloudreach having on the industry over the next 5 years?
In February 2017, Cloudreach joined Blackstone’s portfolio of companies. With Blackstone backing, we are in an even stronger position than ever before. If you look at the markets we are in we have an extraordinary reputation and we are striving to push it further every day. Over the next five years we will extend our worldwide strong position as a leading consultancy in the public cloud.
Do you think Cloudreach provides good opportunities for you to learn? How has this contributed to your Cloudreach journey?
Definitely! Cloudreach offers a broad range of training possibilities beyond my actual field and role. From my point of view, this is a huge asset. Since I had little direct experience within technology, Cloudreach helped me to gain knowledge and supported my personal and professional development.
How has Cloudreach contributed to your development?
Cloudreach has in many ways contributed to my personal and professional development. In addition to the broad training opportunities provided by Cloudreach, I experienced a lot of support from the company especially during my first year. Cloudreach helped me to really deep-dive into a new and dynamic environment while giving me the freedom to develop myself within my role.
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
Canada is by far the most exciting and beautiful country I have visited so far. I have spent time there on several occasions between work, a semester abroad and many vacations. I am still spending most of my vacations, whenever time allows, there. Canadian landscape, nature and people are just fascinating! I can imagine myself living there permanently.
Whether it’s the awesome locations of our offices, cloudy lunch or beer in the fridge, what’s your favorite Cloudy perk?
I really like the kick-off meetings! Connecting with different people from offices all over the world and having a chat over some beers is really the cloudy way to exchange experiences beyond daily business. It is always great fun to speak to people in person that you normally only speak to through chat or email.
