A Face in the Cloud – Evan Lassiter, Talent Acquisition Specialist

Here at Cloudreach, we believe that the growth of a great business is fuelled by great people. It is our talented individuals that make Cloudreach the success it is. Talent Acquisition Specialist Evan Lassiter tells us about his experience working and keeping it cloudy at Cloudreach.

What is your role at Cloudreach?

My role at Cloudreach is Talent Acquisition Specialist. I am responsible for the full life-cycle of recruitment, from initial sourcing and interviewing to making offers and hiring. I focus on multiple departments at Cloudreach, from Cloud Enablement to Commercial Operations and the various teams that fall into those categories. I recently started working with Cloud Operations, Products, and Partnerships as well.

What motivated you to join Cloudreach?

I get this question a lot in my interviews and I really like telling my story because it is different from most. In my past position, I was very unhappy as there was a complete lack of growth and opportunity to enhance my skills among other things. So I started looking for a new position and came across Cloudreach. Cloudreach began interviewing me in the spring/summer of 2016. We finished up the interview process and I thought for sure an offer was coming, but I was told the role had been put on hold.

I was already impressed with what I learned and saw at Cloudreach, so I kept in touch for the rest of the year and into the beginning of 2017. Cloudreach joining Blackstone’s portfolio of companies caught my attention and I immediately reached back out to see if that would open things up again. That is exactly what happened!

Which cloudy value resonates most with you and why?

It is very tough to pick just one cloudy value because they all hit home with me, so I’ll narrow it to two. Be Easy to Work With and Respect the Individual and Individuality go hand-in-hand. I firmly believe there isn’t just one way for everything. We all work very differently and can still be successful.

What do you find most challenging about your role?

There are two answers to this. One is we’re recruiting in the Cloud. While the Cloud is here now, it is still very new. Not only am I new to the Cloud but so are thousands of potential candidates. It’s important to know what our Leaders are looking for in candidates from both a skills and culture perspective, so I have to keep learning all the time. The other is being in a fast-growing company there’s definitely going to be rapid change and ambiguity. It’s vital to be ok with that constant change or it simply won’t work here. It’s vital to be ok with that constant change or it simply won’t work here.

How has Cloudreach contributed to your development?

Cloudreach has been the most positive and eye opening position of my career. Being a part of the company has given me the opportunity to obtain my first AWS certification and I will be going after my second. Having national and international presence has also enabled me to interact with individuals with different thoughts and ideas and to open up my thinking and improve my recruiting abilities.

I firmly believe joining a company like Cloudreach and growing within the company is also what helped contribute to my joining of the Forbes HR Council.

Being sponsored by Cloudreach told me how much the company valued this opportunity as well.

Do you think Cloudreach provides good opportunities for you to learn?

I was brought to Cloudreach because of my recruiting background within IT. What I didn’t have much experience in was Sales. In no time, I was focusing on both. On top of that, I didn’t have much experience recruiting within the Cloud, so I have had to learn a great deal!

What's your favorite Cloudy perk?

The flexibility. When I first joined Cloudreach, I lived relatively close to the office and was able to go in pretty regularly. I enjoyed going into the office simply because of the people and the relaxed environment. But then I bought my house and had to move significantly further away and as a result, am only able to go into the office a couple of days a week. Not one thing has changed with the people I work with. They all understand and that is huge. I have worked with companies that had a complete lack of trust and always made it seem like you were being watched, coming and going. Here, I have NEVER had that feeling.

How do you strike your own work/life balance?

My family is number one to me. When it comes to my family, I want to make sure I’m always available to them. In order to do that, I have to plan each day accordingly with what we have going onThis company gives me the opportunity to do that and be flexible and they have trust I’m still going to my job.

How do you define success?

Being happy with what I do, who I do it for, and earning respect for what I do. I don’t need to be recognized for all of my accomplishments, but it’s nice to know you’re appreciated. Here at Cloudreach, I feel like I’m a part of something and not just a number. And that makes me want to do go above and beyond in my job.

What would you do for a career if you weren’t doing this?

I always had an interest in Medical sales as that is another industry that will continue to grow and stick around.

Any favorite line from a movie?

Can’t quote this word for word but, "The truth is a lot like poetry, and most people hate poetry" - The Big Short.

What role do you see Cloudreach playing in the technology industry over the next 5 years?

I think our US operations are only at the beginning of where we’re going to be. We have opened up 2 new offices in the Midwest and West Coast. We have merged with a couple of companies. We need people to handle what we’re going after! From a technology standpoint, we’re going to continue growing within AWS and Azure is growing for us as well. Having Premier and Gold partnerships with AWS and Microsoft respectively, as well as a partnership with Google, is a huge differentiator and will be for a long time.

What advice would you give to recent new hires?

Cloudreach is a growing company. And with that comes difficult challenges, constant changes, and ambiguity. Be patient. Do what you were hired to do, get outside your comfort zone and challenge yourself, and it will come together.

Be sure to take advantage of everything Cloudreach has to offer, it’ll open up multiple doors and opportunities.

Thanks Evan!
