The Challenge

This technology company offers a range of services to help organizations migrate, modernize and optimize their cloud environments. A key area of focus is financial optimization – that is, helping to allocate costs to projects and aligning cost-saving measures with the needs and demands of targeted applications.

Financial information and performance metrics are often separately held data sets, making it difficult and time-consuming to find cost reduction opportunities.

The Solution

By partnering with CloudHealth, a VMware solution, Cloudreach is able to provide robust financial governance to ensure customers are achieving maximum value from the cloud.

The Cloudreach FinOps team ran CloudHealth on the tech company’s environment and discovered that a bug in the code used to manage its Kubernetes clustering was not cleaning up unused volumes – resulting in unnecessary AWS spend that was growing on a monthly basis.

After verifying why the volumes existed and ensuring they were no longer needed, Cloudreach deleted them and fixed the Terraform code so that unused volumes would be removed going forward.

The Outcome

By using Cloudreach’s infrastructure reliability services – and financial optimization specifically – the tech company was able to eliminate AWS spend in the  amount of $33k USD per month. Left undetected, this amount would have increased on a monthly basis.

The CloudHealth solution, as part of Cloudreach’s financial optimization service, helps to:

  • Provide policy-enabled governance as well as visibility and oversight of cloud spend
  • Offer advanced, detailed reporting down to line of business and individual developer level
  • Identify infrastructure optimization opportunities
