The Challenge
The global company needed help in solving two seemingly contrary operational goals – the shared nature of Azure Kubernetes Services (its newly chosen platform) – and the need for segregation in an regulated environment.

The Solution
Having worked together before, and with Cloudreach’s recent Kubernetes on Microsoft Azure Advanced Specialization certification from Microsoft to underscore our expertise, the company had confidence that Cloudreach had the skills and a deep understanding of its requirements to take on this challenge..
After considering a baked-in approach (existing apps would have to be re-engineered and redeployed) and a sidecar approach (service mesh), the joint team decided on Istio, a service mesh solution.
Admiral, another open-source tool was also deployed to help with multi-cluster service mesh deployment and configuration.

The Outcome
The company’s environment is far more resilient and fault-tolerant than its previous single cluster configuration. The company now has:
- Faster deployment cycles and accelerated migration of new applications on AKS.
- Enhanced monitoring and alerting capabilities.
- Improved developer productivity.
- Ability to apply uniform network policies.
- Automatic failover and disaster recovery capabilities.
