A Face in the Cloud – Marcelo Negro, Cloud Consultant, London

Keep It Cloudy News 20th October 2017
Marcelo Negro - A Face in the Cloud - Cloud Consultant, London

Here at Cloudreach, we believe that the growth of a great business is fuelled by great people. It is our talented individuals that make Cloudreach the success it is. Today Cloud Consultant Marcelo Negro tells us about his experience working and keeping it cloudy at Cloudreach.

What is your role at Cloudreach?

I’m currently a Cloud Consultant based in our London office. My role is very wide in scope, but essentially it is to provide consultative, strategic and programme advice for our customers’ journeys to the cloud. We engage across the entire customer vertical, from C-Level to front line operations. One week I could be meeting with a global CTO of a Fortune 500 company about their Cloud Business Case, while the next week I could be leading a workshop on how to create a Target Operating Model.

What do you find most challenging about your role?

There are no easy engagements and no cookie-cutter solutions. Every customer brings their own unique set of complex challenges. Although we bring years of experience and industry knowledge, our challenge is being able to transform theory into real-world best practice that is unique to each customer.

What do you find most exciting about your role?

We need to keep ourselves at the forefront of technology and best practice in an industry that changes at warp speed and constantly makes you go “WOW!”

Before working at Cloudreach, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I was an English/Spanish simultaneous translator for international medical teams providing care in some of the poorest slums in South America. It was humbling; physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausting; and the most rewarding work I’ve ever done.

How has Cloudreach contributed to your growth and development?

Cloudreach sees the potential in you, not just what you’ve already done. This gives you confidence to take personal leaps to grow and develop. There is always the next step.

Do you think Cloudreach provides good opportunities for you to learn? How has this contributed to your Cloudreach journey?

Cloudreach offers you constant opportunities to learn, both in formal and informal settings. From the multitude of official Microsoft, AWS, and Google courses you can take, to informal learning opportunities like Friday Techie-Teas! It is an environment of constant learning and playing with the latest tech.

Can you share an experience you have had of learning within Cloudreach?

I’ve built my career on Microsoft technologies. Within two weeks of joining, I was already enrolled in AWS courses and equally sharing my own expertise and knowledge with co-workers. It was that quick.

What do you like to do when not working?

I spend a lot of time with my family (we have two small kids)! We love to travel and have become very proficient in long-haul flights with children! My son had already visited 11 countries by his fourth birthday.

If you had to be stuck in a lift with one person, who would it be and why?

Although I am careful to not get too political, I would love to be stuck in a lift with President Obama. An intellectual and incredible communicator with an amazing ability to transform vision to reality in some of the toughest and most adverse environments.

What inspires you?

People who think differently than I do. I love being challenged on my ideas (in a proper way, of course). I love talking with people who are smarter than me. They challenge and inspire me.

What technological innovation is on your wishlist for the next 5 years? 10 years?

To talk about innovation in those timescales, you need to forget about everything we are doing today! I would like to see technology play a more direct role in healthcare – making it easier and more affordable for people to enjoy life!

What role do you see Cloudreach playing in the technology industry over the next 5 years?

We want to continue to be people-focused and challenge the status-quo through constant innovation. Sounds soft, right? How’s this: We won’t relent in pushing ourselves in applying the transformative power of cloud to the masses… and having fun in the process, of course!

Whether it’s the awesome locations of our offices, cloudy lunch or beer in the fridge, what’s your favorite Cloudy perk?

Did someone mention uncapped holidays?

What advice do you have for prospective Cloudreach candidates?

Get ready to learn, be pushed, and work with amazing people!

Thanks Marcelo!
