Here at Cloudreach, we believe that the growth of a great business is fuelled by great people. It is our talented individuals that make Cloudreach the success it is. Today Cloud Software Engineer Troy Connor tells us about his experience working and keeping it cloudy at Cloudreach.
What is your role at Cloudreach?
As a Cloud Software Engineer, I am a key member of our Cloud Enablement team and am responsible for driving the development of production applications and tools for Cloudreach customers. I work in accordance with Cloudreach development methodologies and leverage industry best practices, tools, and infrastructure to deliver high quality end products. I develop containerisation orchestration efforts by using Kubernetes and create infrastructure to support that. I also perform duties that create CI/CD pipelines, automation of deployments, and optimise the capabilities within existing applications.
What motivated you to join Cloudreach?
My story of joining Cloudreach is different than most. I was working with a group of people at Emerging Technology Advisors when the opportunity to be acquired came about. After researching Cloudreach and what it was all about, I wasn’t at all apprehensive to join. I saw a strong company culture, an unwavering dedication to building up people, and the undeniable impact they have had on the industry. It was a no-brainer that this move for us, collectively, would be something that I’d remember forever. Since it happened, everything from great opportunities to fun memories have started and will continue.
How has Cloudreach contributed to your development?
Cloudreach offers tons of resources. We have Tekki Teas that offer people the opportunity to learn from their peers. This platform allows those who want to speak on stage in front of an audience someday the opportunity to teach anything they are passionate about in a group setting. This safe space encourages myself and others to quickly learn and develop skills that otherwise would be difficult. They also encourage me to attend and speak at conferences, which has promoted my personal growth even further.
Do you think Cloudreach provides good opportunities for you to learn? How has this contributed to your Cloudreach journey?
I know that Cloudreach provides excellent opportunities to learn. I love personal development and so does Cloudreach. Cloudreach encourages an environment for learning by providing tools, mentors, and other resources to set us up for success. This has contributed to my Cloudreach journey by allowing and motivating me to take on challenges that I may have been too afraid to confront before coming here. Creating such challenges not only helps myself, but it helps Cloudreach as well. They now have an employee who has a new skillset that can be provided to clients and other mentees.
What are 3 words you would use to describe Cloudreach?
Innovating, Inspiring, Encouraging
What have you gained from working at Cloudreach?
Opportunity. In addition to the visibility that comes with being one of the premier players in Cloud innovation, Cloudreach offers mentorship, diverse talent, and opportunities to become the leaders we’ve proven to be. Being part of Cloudreach allows me to make an impact and to innovate current and future clients with quality software, services and products.
How do you strike your own work/life balance?
When you love what you do, is it really work? I try to use every productivity hack that I can think of that allows to me to play at work while providing value for Cloudreach. I am lucky to have friends who love what we do, finding the same interests inside and outside of work. I do, however, allow myself some time to relax and kick back away from it all.
What has been your favourite Cloudreach moment?
I have only been with Cloudreach a little over 3 months. My favourite moment so far has to have been the company kickoff trip to Lisbon. I’d never been to Portugal before and was very excited to go. This trip came at the right time for a little rest, relaxation, and an introduction to Cloudreach as a business. Having the opportunity to travel and meet the entire company was something I didn’t think was possible. I learned a lot during those days in Lisbon. The best part was having an opportunity to meet colleagues and come away with friends.
What advice would you give to recent new hires?
Take advantage of EVERYTHING you can get your hands on early. There are a lot of things that you can take advantage of and this may feel overwhelming at first, but Cloudreach is very good at developing people. Devote your time to growing within Cloudreach’s awesome community. You’ll find that the people here truly want to see you succeed.
