A Face in the Cloud – Jimmy Etimos, Cloud Architect, New York
Here at Cloudreach, we believe that the growth of a great business is fuelled by great people. It is our talented individuals that make Cloudreach the success it is. Today Cloud Architect Jimmy Etimos tells us about his experience working and keeping it cloudy at Cloudreach.
What is your role at Cloudreach?
As a Cloud Architect I help clients define the strategic direction and operating model in order to achieve the most beneficial and optimal use of cloud technologies. As the technical lead, my main responsibilities are designing and architecting solutions and providing thought leadership among peers and clients.
How did you first learn about Cloudreach?
Browsing through AWS videos, Cloudreach kept appearing with a slew of interesting engagements, ranging from enterprise migrations to cloud native solutions. Upon further research, this “tiny” for the U.S. market company unfolded as an incredible, highly certified, born in the cloud integrator with a disruptive culture… I simply had to reach out.
What are some challenges you have faced in your role and how have you overcome them?
The sheer breadth of the Cloud Architect role, from defining strategy and governance frameworks to “hands-on-keyboard” with Python, Ansible and other tools has been the most daunting, but at the same time most rewarding challenge. Keeping abreast with technology has not only helped me face that challenge, but also allowed me to deliver sound foundational and holistic value to all clients and projects.
Which cloudy value most resonates with you and why?
A common question that is always so hard to answer. All 4 cloudy values are so evident and part of everyone at Cloudreach, equally contributing to the incredible culture and growth of the company, that they almost seem undivided – a perfect recipe. “Be one step ahead” tends to be my choice, as it is the factor that most commonly sets Cloudreach ahead of the competition for our clients.
What’s your cloudy super skill?
Having a long career (notice the lack of quantification there) that alternated between “in-house” and consulting roles, being “Easy to Work With” is my super skill. Being able to not only understand but relate to the organizational needs of each client, has proven to be an invaluable skill to get projects off the ground quickly and well targeted towards their strategic goals.
What inspires you?
Enablement. It is quite common to jump on the latest bandwagon of the current hottest technology for the “wrong” reasons – as most of us in this field maintain that technological “hunger.” Enablement is a coined term used quite often in the industry, sometimes lacking the credit it deserves.
Technology is successful when it truly enables the organization to function better, achieve its mission and strategic goals and furthermore, allow it to set new ones that were not possible before. A successful cloud adoption transforms an organization by providing a technological agility that allows quick response to market changes and the ability to set market trends. We have all witnessed cloud-born companies completely revamp markets in the last few years, inspiring the whole world in the process.
“Fail Quick – Fail Safe” is one of the most advantageous benefits of the cloud, allowing the quick and economical trial of new technologies and their potential alignment to the organization’s vision.
What role do you see Cloudreach playing in the technology industry over the next 5 years?
Cloudreach has had incredible growth and success by redefining consulting and managed services to new “cloudy” standards. The combination of highly technical people and agile methods has helped not only our clients successfully transition to the cloud, but together we have many times set and refined the provided cloud offerings.
Cloudreach is emerging as the global leader in software-enabled hyper cloud platforms, and the will to maintain our culture through this incredible growth, is the guarantee to being that global leader.
Jimmy will also be joining our NYC team at the AWS Summit in New York on August 14, 2017, where he will be speaking with Alex Lopez, Director of Infrastructure and Operations at Omnicom Group about using a Hyper-Accelerated Cloud Adoption model to ensure a successful cloud migration.
