A face in the cloud – Angelos Efthimiou, Cloud Engagement Manager in Munich
Here at Cloudreach, we believe that the growth of a great business is fuelled by great people. It is our talented individuals that make Cloudreach the success it is. Today Angelos Efthimiou tells us about his experience working and #KeepingitCloudy at Cloudreach.
What is your role at Cloudreach? Describe your main responsibilities.
At Cloudreach I am a Cloud Engagement Manager. I take a customer project from the sales team and ensure its successful delivery. Most people outside of Cloudreach would refer to this role as a Project Manager.
What have you gained from working at Cloudreach?
Since joining Cloudreach there hasn’t been a day where I didn’t learn something new. The most eye opening insight has been how Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) enables individuals and enterprises alike to experiment and innovate. It gives me a very positive outlook for the future and is an invaluable piece of information that I love to share.
What has been your favourite project at Cloudreach?
My favourite project has been also my most challenging one. A leading German car supplier asked us to create a multi-cloud governance framework in order to accelerate and streamline their global adoption of IaaS and PaaS. It was a truly interesting blend of technical and functional challenges that required us to put together a cross-functional team.
What do you find the most challenging at Cloudreach?
We are growing with an extreme pace which forces all of us to constantly adapt and improve what we do and how we do it. I was always used to a fast pace, but this is certainly a new level and requires everybody to embrace change as something inherently positive.
Before working at Cloudreach, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I loved my job as Product Manager for a SaaS FinTech provider in NYC. I was the Product Owner for several key modules such as Payments and Reporting. It was truly interesting for me because I had the opportunity to work with software developments teams in the U.S., Europe and Asia. My most unusual experience was when I was asked to support our go to market in Japan and had to fly on short notice to Tokyo.
Whether it’s the locations of our offices, cloudy lunch or beer in the fridge, what’s your favourite Cloudy perk?
I love our annual kick-off meetings when we all get together and meet at cool locations around Europe. It is a great opportunity to reconnect with people from other offices. At the end of the day, it’s the smart and kind people that make Cloudreach the best place to work.
What advice do you have for prospective Cloudreach candidates?
Make sure you share our passion for the Cloud and don’t hesitate to take a close look at the tech behind the scenes. This is especially true for candidates applying to non-technical roles. AWS, Azure, GCP or SFDC certificates certainly give applicants an edge and helps them to get a better understanding of what we do.
What is your Cloudy super skill?
As an Engagement Manager, I constantly kick off projects with newly formed teams. Providing a vision, explaining the big picture and making sure the team is excited to be on the project – that’s what I love doing. It makes everything that comes after that so much more pleasant.
What is something about yourself that would surprise people?
A lot of people are surprised when they hear about my background. I’m a Greek-German currently living in Munich. In the past, I’ve lived across Europe in Germany, Greece, Austria, the UK and the U.S. (NYC). It usually comes up when they hear my blend of accents.
What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?
This is a tough question given how many innovations we have seen in the past decades. If I have to pick one, I would point to the World Wide Web and the availability of a global internet. To me, this has been the foundation for the Cloud revolution we see today. I believe that IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS will change the way we think about innovation itself and fuel a next wave of discoveries.
