A Face in the Cloud – Shreni Thakkar, Client Commercial Lead

Keep It Cloudy News 10th July 2018
Shreni Thakkar, Client Commercial Lead
Here at Cloudreach, we believe that the growth of a great business is fuelled by great people. It is our talented individuals that make Cloudreach the success it is. Shreni Thakkar, our Client Commercial Lead based in New York, tells us about her experiences with emerging tech as well as her inspirations and some pearls of wisdom.

Tell us a bit about your current role then Shreni?

I am currently a Client Commercial Lead on our Commercial Operations team. I focus most of my efforts on recommending solutions that allow our key customers to transform their global enterprise technology strategy.

You’ve worked at a lot of tech companies in the past. What was it that attracted you to Cloudreach?

There’s nothing like the energy of a startup, especially in tech. A good friend of mine worked at Cloudreach and every time I caught up with her, she’d tell me about how smart and fun her coworkers were and what a great company Cloudreach was. When I saw that they were hiring in New York, I reached out to her and the rest is history.

It’s been a year since then and to say that time flew by at warp speed would be an understatement. Despite the honeymoon phase being over, I still LOVE what I do every day because every day is different. There are so many applied uses for emerging tech within a global enterprise and each organization is so unique. Because Cloudreach doesn’t sell just one particular packaged product or service, it allows me to be much more strategic and consultative in my role. That’s what’s kept me engaged a year later.

What do you like about working with enterprise IT customers?

It’s always been a dream of mine to work with the smartest minds to create technology for the future and my current role takes me one step closer to that dream.

The role of IT within a global, billion dollar organization has evolved dramatically over the last 15 years or so. The shift from CapEx to OpEx models and being cost centers to now catalysts for revenue growth has forced CTO/CIO’s to completely re-evaluate their existing methodologies. It’s very interesting to be involved working alongside my customers in that process.

What do you think has made you successful over the years at disruptive tech companies?

As a child I played too many video games and always got in trouble for socializing too much in school (and on the phone at home). That got channeled into a major in Psychology with an incessant curiosity for the practical applications and implications of emerging tech. Driven by my own passion, I strive to demystify emerging tech for my clients and help them seamlessly implement it within their own organizations.

I think my success stems from a true desire to see my clients succeed.

We know you’re a proud mum with 2 young children. What advice would you give to other tech mums out there?

A solid support system is everything. Being mom is my favorite role, but man does it tire me out! Trying to find the right balance between being on point at work and being present when you’re at home is constant. However, remembering that you don’t have to do it alone is key.

Also – today’s kids have access to so many more STEAM focused programs than we did. Take advantage of what’s available in your area. It’s never too early to get your kids interested in the sciences.

Are there any communities out there to support mums in tech?

Good question, lol. I’ll find one – does my group of friends that I get cocktails with count? 😉

What inspires you?

Family and authentic experiences. I come from a very close, very large Indian family with a countless amount of cousins and almost all of us are first generation in the States. Each of our parents came here with very little in order to provide better for their kids and it’s been amazing to see what they’ve all collectively achieved. I’m always inspired to make sure that I honor that spirit now that I have my own children.

Name 3 things on your bucket list.
  • Travel to every continent
  • Dine at fifteen 3-Michelin Star Restaurants around the world
  • Bungee jump off of a helicopter

What has been your favourite Cloudreach moment so far?

A few months back, Cloudreach jointly with our partners (AWS, Google, MSFT) hosted a Cloud Immersion Week for the Blackstone CTO/CIO community. It was a week in Seattle spent with some of the most brilliant minds in the tech community having conversations that potentially impact billions of dollars of revenue across the world. Everything from Quantum Computing to AI/ML, to Blockchain. It was a very surreal week.

That and the kick off in Lisbon last year 🙂

What advice would you give to people thinking about working in sales at Cloudreach?

Be prepared to work hard, think outside the box, have a true passion for tech and then fasten your seatbelt because everything following will be a hell of a ride. It’s the true cloudy way 🙂
